Clash of Clans is one of the world's leading mobile games and one of the world's most downloaded apps over the past decade. With the award-winning title set to launch their new season, Clash With Haaland, featuring Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland, they wanted to create a unique social amplification strategy as part of their extensive multi-channel global marketing effort.
Having developed a creative concept focusing on football legends challenging Erling Haaland and his position as Clash of Clans' new ambassador, Playmaker worked with Supercell to idenfity suitable profiles to feature in the campaign. The personalities had to fit two distinct critieria - legendary status within global football and relevancy to Erling Haaland to create an authentic campaign narrative. Together, we identified Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Sergio Aguero as the ideal personalities to bring the campaign to life.
The campaign came to life in a series of video content with each legend making their own case for why they should be Clash of Clans' new ambassador instead of Haaland. The content was a huge success online, amassing over 40m organic views across player and Supercell-owned channels, helping to make the Clash With Haaland campaign a huge success in terms of global awareness, player acquisition and user re-engagement.
